The Stolen Tiles
Fidelidade
SubmetidoProjeto
Having arrived in Portugal in the 15th century, the tile (azulejo) is a distinctive part of our country's cultural heritage, decorating the fronts of many buildings with its colorful and intricate patterns. Each tile is a unique piece of art, a part of history that can't even be replicated by modern day techniques. Many tiles are being stolen and sold at local fairs as souvenirs. Most tourists don't realize it, but when they buy one of these unique pieces, they're actually contributing to its extinction. In order to safeguard these unique pieces, Fidelidade will use the gaps left by stolen tiles to prevent any more from being taken. Each gap will feature a unique message, raising awareness about the issue and contributing to its solution: the preservation of our heritage before it becomes history. Plus, every time a tourist snaps a picture and shares our tiles on social media, they'll be spreading our warning messages around the globe. Gap by gap, we can save the remaining pieces.
